4 x City
4 x City is a proposal to radically redesign our cities by halving the area of the city with the same number of inhabitants and the same number of uses.

On the one hand, 4 x city means much more frequented places with more public space, better use of existing buildings and more inner-city development, shorter distances with a denser supply network, more social contacts and denser public life. In return, recreational and natural areas close to residential areas will be kept free of building uses on half of the existing settlement area. On the Matador playing surface, the densification of the settlement area can be simulated step by step, with tighter building blocks enabling streets to be converted back into green spaces. The aim of the game is to reclaim as much green space as possible in as few moves as possible. We showed this installation for the first time as part of the exhibition 9m² für Visionen at the AFO in Linz and is part of a comprehensive initiative by K&D Städte neu zu denken.
